Verma, Wyatt lead Velocity home against Trailblazers

The Report

15-year-old Shafali Verma's whirlwind knock of 34 and Dani Wyatt's pristine 35-ball 46 ensured Velocity chase the target of 113, set by Mandhana's Trailblazers, comfortably to bring up their maiden win of the tournament.

Chasing 113, Velocity got off to a worst possible start as Deepti Sharma [4-14] knocked over Hayley Matthews for 5. But Shafali Verma along with Wyatt steadied Velocity's innings with a 38-run partnership for the second wicket. Wyatt looked in sublime touch as she carted the Trailblazers' spinners to all corners of the ground and was abely backed up by Shafali's strokeplay at the other end. Verma perished on 34 but Wyatt and skipper Raj [17] took the teams' total past 100.

The match only sprung to life after Velocity's inexplicable collapse in the end that saw them lose 5-0 with Deepti Sharma doing the bulk of the damage. But Sushree Pradhan took the requisite two runs to ensure Velocity end up on the winning side.

This happened after Mithali Raj won the all-important toss and slotted in the Trailblazers to bat. Shikha Pandey got the prize scalp of skipper Smriti Mandhana for 10 but Harleen Deol carried on with her delightful form from the first game. The batter scored a 40-ball 43 and along with Suzie Bates [26] stitched 35-run stand for the second wicket.

Bates perished at 26 off Bisht in trying to up the ante and just like the first game, the Trailblazers middle-order wasn't up to the task as Steffanie Taylor [5], Deepti Sharma [16] and Fulmali [2] failed to garner any momentum as the innings eventually folded for 6-112 after 20 overs.

With a win for both sides, the pressure is now on the Supernovas. Their last game against Velocity makes it a do-or-die encounter for them which they have to win if they are to garner any chances of making it to the finals.

Match in Brief-

Trailblazers [6-112, Harleen Deol 43, Ekta Bisht 2-13] lost to Velocity [7-113, Shafali Verma 34, Dani Wyatt 46, Deepti Sharma 4-14] by three wickets
