The most successful franchise in IPL history, MI are also the defending champions going into this year’s IPL. They clinched a last-ball victory to win the match by 1 run against a formidable CSK side to win their fourth title in 2019.

A star-studded team with some of the biggest names in world cricket, MI is one of the most popular teams with fans deeming anything less than a final appearance as a failure.
The batting lineup of MI is as good as it gets with the likes of Quinton De Kock and Chris Lynn ready to open the innings and smash the bowlers all over the park. Skipper Rohit Sharma often considered one of the best white-ball players in the world usually opens the innings but it’ll be interesting to see where he plays this time around with the arrival of Chris Lynn.
The Middle Order is jam-packed with Indian talents such as Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan and Krunal Pandya who can adjust their games as per the situation and go on the attack if necessary. In the past, they have on several occasions pulled MI out of tricky situations with crucial partnerships which has helped them win matches.
Hardik Pandya & Kieron Pollard, arguably two of the best finishers & power-hitters contribute with both the bat and ball which gives MI a balance in the team of such incredible quality which any team would love to have.
The spin department is where MI lack a bit, with lack of quality spinners a problem which could hamper the progress for the team. Krunal Pandya would be the most senior spinner in the squad with youngsters Rahul Chahar & Anukul Roy present to provide support. The UAE tracks will be slow and spinner friendly which means the MI spin department has to step up massively to improve the sides chance for a 5th title.
As far as fast bowlers are concerned, MI has the best in business with the likes of Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult leading the attack. No team would like to face them if given a choice, that’s how good they are. In Mitchell McClenaghan, MI has someone they know can be relied upon. MI will, however, be missing the services of legendary fast bowler Lasith Malinga who also happens to be the highest wickets taker in IPL history.
On paper, MI are one of the favourites for the trophy once again but it all depends on their spin department to rise to the occasion and support the incredibly strong batting & fast bowling lineup. A team full of winners, coached by Mahela Jayawardane, they have every chance of retaining the title.
MI fans can be excited about the season and hope their team wins for the second consecutive year and rightly so. The team is full of quality and capable of winning the trophy once again.
My Prediction: Playoffs
