In the meantime, we take a look back at some memorable clashes between the two teams on Indian soil to revisit the golden memories:
2001-02 Mohali (Young Team India stand up against England)
A young team India, Under the leadership of Sourav Ganguly defeated Nasser Hussain's England thanks to the brilliance of Harbhajan Singh as he took five wickets in the first innings to set the tone for the match. India took a big first innings lead on the back of a fabulous century from Deep Dasgupta to put India in the driving seat. In the second innings, Anil Kumble spun his magic as he took 6 wickets to take team India to a memorable 10 wicket victory.
The remaining two tests ended in Draws and India went on to win the series!
2005-06 Mumbai (Gritty Andrew Flintoff helps draw the Series )
India led the series coming into the match courtesy of Anil Kumble’s brilliant match winning performance in the previous test.
A classy century from Andrew Strauss along with a half-century from Andrew Flintoff set the tone for the visitors, and James Anderson took 4 wickets in the first innings to help England take a significant lead. Flintoff was again the star performer as he scored another half-century in the second innings to set India a total of 313. The England bowlers took 9 wickets on the final day in Wankhede to defeat India by 212 runs and draw the series.
2008-09 Chennai (Sachin, Yuvi Pay tribute in style)
England had to leave midway through the series due to the horrific 26/11 which rocked India. They gracefully returned to play a two match test Series in December.
Andrew Strauss was the star performer of the match with centuries in both the innings until team India decided to pull off the unthinkable. Chasing an unlikely target of 387 in the fourth innings, Virender Sehwag set the tone with a quick 83. Yuvraj Singh remained unbeaten on 85* whilst Sachin Tendulkar score an unbeaten 103* to wrap a memorable win under testing times for our country. He later dedicated his century and the win to the martyrs of the 26/11 attack.
India drew the second test to confirm the series victory.
2012 Mumbai (Kevin Pietersen batting masterclass, England Spinners wreak havoc)
That Wankhede Pitch was a minefield to bat on, but Kevin Pietersen put on a world-class batting display with a 186-run knock. Alastair Cook scored a brilliant 122 to put the visitors in the driving seat. Monty Panesar and Graeme Swann took 19 of the 20 Indian wickets to send India on a crashing 10 wicket defeat in their own yard.
England made the most of their momentum to go on to win yet another test and secure a historic Test Series victory on Indian Soil.
