Asia Cup 2018 Planned WELL or BAD?

The Asia Cup is one of the biggest tournaments to watch out for the cricket fans. The subcontinental teams battle it out against each other to win the Asia Cup. The format of the Asia Cup depends on the next corresponding ICC tournament and decided accordingly.

The 2016 Asia Cup was the first Asia Cup to be featured as a T20 tournament while the current Asia Cup is played as an ODI format. A lot of questions have been raised on the tournament’s schedule.

With the World Cup coming up next year, the format of the tournament becomes a perfect series for teams to improvise their One Day performance. Although, when it comes to venue and the timings of the matches, the tournament wasn’t up to the mark.

6 teams of 2 groups play to get into the super 4s and top 2 reach the finals. In order to play the matches based on this format, teams had to play 2 complete ODI matches in two consecutive days. Also, the super 4 format lead to two teams like India and Pakistan play multiple times against each other.

When teams play on two consecutive days, it creates a lot of impact in terms of performance and players’ fitness. Not to mention the hot and humid weather of Dubai and Abu Dhabhi where these matches are being played in.

Such reasons have let down the overall experience of watching the Asia Cup which should’ve been better being such a high scale tournament. Experiences like this can also have impact on injuries for players in future tournaments and series.
